Mission Million

A million commitments in service of thriving life.

Become an activator for thriving places. Offer what you can. Act where you are. Create the conditions for life to thrive.

In Nairobi, I commit to teaching five girls to code.

Worldwide online launch on 31 October 2026, World Cities Day, at the Global AI Summit for Cities.

Why Mission Million

I am because you are. I am because we are.

We belong to one human family and share one living home. Our lives are made possible by relationships that reach far beyond ourselves, across generations, communities, cultures and ecosystems.

We have drawn borders, yet the living systems that sustain us move across them. Mission Million invites us to recognise this shared belonging and to act from it.

We call what we are reaching for thrivability: creating, and continually renewing, the conditions in which people flourish with one another and with the wider living world.

We honour those who gave us life by honouring life, and by caring for the conditions we leave to those who come after us.

What has life made you able to respond to?

Each of us carries a particular mix of experience, knowledge, relationships, gifts and resources. We call this response-ability: recognising what life has prepared us to respond to, and choosing to act.

One person has an asset to give. Another has a skill, a story, a public voice, a classroom, a business, time, or a capacity to care.

  • What do I see that needs attention?
  • What has life prepared me to offer?
  • What is within my reach?
  • Who could I join with?
  • What am I ready to begin?
  • Money to fund solutions
  • Expertise to share
  • Relationships that open doors
  • Assets that others can use
  • Action that makes it happen

You can join before you know exactly what your contribution will be.

How it works

Discover your contribution. Make a commitment. Create measurable change.

  1. A willingness to contribute becomes a commitment.

  2. A commitment becomes action.

  3. Action, learning and continued response-ability open the way to transformation.

Six voices of our places

Mission Million invites the four voices of the city, with young people and elders as two further voices. They overlap: a young person may run a business, an elder may be a mayor. Across all six, we keep the wellbeing of the wider living world in mind.

City leadership Use your authority to create conditions in which others can contribute.

Open a decision-making process, improve a service, remove a barrier to participation, sponsor leadership development or convene a citywide Mission Million initiative. Your commitment can make many others possible.

Civil society Bring the knowledge and relationships you have built by serving your communities.

Coordinate a neighbourhood project, share a practice that works, offer expertise or bring organisations together around a shared challenge. Help us recognise and strengthen the good work already taking place.

Business Put your resources, practices and influence in service of thriving life.

Offer paid opportunities for young people, expertise, equipment, technology, premises or funding. Sponsor a city leader, support a community initiative, or change how your business treats people and the living world.

Citizens Act from wherever you stand: your home, street, workplace or network.

Offer care, mentor someone, organise neighbours, restore a shared space or start a conversation that needs to happen. If you have a public voice, use it to make meaningful action visible.

Youth Help define the future you want to inhabit, and begin creating it.

Tell us what needs to change, bring your ideas and lead an initiative. Join through your school, university, youth organisation or group of friends. A free Future Leaders program is being prepared for you.

Elders What would you like to pass on, and whom would you like to learn with?

Share a story for future generations, teach a skill, mentor someone, open a relationship or offer resources. Mission Million can connect elders and young people so that both contribute and both learn.

Your commitment, in one sentence

Fill in the gaps. Small and specific is better than large and vague.

In , as , I commit to , with or for . I will begin by , and keep sharing what happens and what I am learning.

Your commitment is made

We will write to you before the global launch on 31 October. Until then, tell one person what you have committed to.

Mission Million starts with the gifts of its founders and partners. What might you bring?

Art in service of life

Bring Mission Million to your city

Change happens in places. Mission Million grows city by city: each participating city gathers commitments from its six voices, aiming for a thousand, and together we reach towards a thousand cities.

  • ConveneBring the voices of your city together around Mission Million: administration, organisations, businesses, residents, young people and elders.
  • GatherInvite a thousand commitments from the people who live and work in your city, and make them visible.
  • CelebrateHold a local gathering on Earth Day, show what changed, and be recognised for what your city made possible.

Mayors, city teams, civic organisations and local coordinators can register a city.

Your commitment is a beginning

After you commit, you will not be left alone with a promise. You can share your progress, join the global moments, and find others acting in your place.

If you want to go further, Global Mayors Academy offers pathways for development. We will open each one as it becomes ready, and always say clearly what is free, sponsored or paid.

What we will recognise

What changed in each place, with the resources it had and the people who took part, rather than the number of activities. Compassionate action, youth leadership, collaboration across generations, inclusion, care for ecosystems and lasting change in institutions.

  • SharePost your progress and what you are learning, so others can see what is becoming possible.
  • GatherJoin the global moments online, and meet in person where you can.
  • ConnectFind people acting in your place, and offer or ask for what is needed.
  • GrowStep into learning: the free Future Leaders program, leadership programs for city leaders and their teams, and Samriva, an AI developmental companion for reflection.

Give what you have. Share what you need.

Some contributions are gifts; others become exchanges that both sides agree. Tell us what you can offer and what you need, and local coordinators and partner organisations will help connect the two.

  • Translationa chance to study
  • Mentoring from an elderhelp recording life stories
  • Space from a businessguidance on more responsible practice

We keep money, time and outcomes separate. Some contributions cannot be priced, and a higher financial value never makes one person's contribution more important than another's.
